Bon Vivant Market & Cafe

Those of you that live on the Eastside are probably familiar with Atwater Village, the little neighborhood nestled between Los Feliz, Silver Lake and Glendale. If so, you've likely been to Proof for some of their delicious pastries and coffee. There's a chance you've had dinner or indulged in the tasty brunch at Canele. You may even attend classes at Heartbeat House and Bikram Yoga Silverlake. The point is, many of you know about the little treasures that can be found in Atwater Village, and last month, Tricia Belle (of Boardners) opened Bon Vivant Market & Cafe, adding to them and making some Villagers very happy!

Let us start off by putting things into perspective -- Bon Vivant is unlike any market or cafe on this side of town. The concept is modeled to be similar to Dean & Deluca. Delicious meats and sandwiches can be found at the charcuterie case. There's a variety of sides and salads at the deli case, and sweets can be found at the dessert case. Plus, there is a coffee counter. Order your food and drinks at the counter, get a number, and your order is delivered to your table.

One thing to note is that while the name highlights the market & cafe, it doesn't mention the beautiful bar! Now we don't know about you, but every now and then (okay, more often than not) we like to enjoy a glass of wine or a stiff cocktail with our meals. Bon Vivant has a selection of wines by TIXA, and a full service bar. However, since our last visit, we were told that there were some issues with the liquor license, but that it should be secured very soon.

Time for a Cocktail

Bon  Vivant has an airy space with rustic decor. The picture does not do it justice. It is beautiful.

As burger snobs, we are harsh critics when it comes to our beef. This juicy cheeseburger did not disappoint! We also love eggs, so the addition of the fried egg and its runny yolk took it to the next level. This is a must-have!

As we mentioned, we love eggs, so we had to order the deviled eggs with anchovies.
We were expecting a bit more flavor, but it was still tasty.

You can never go wrong with a beet salad.

The Spicy Cucumber Margarita had some kick and was refreshing on a hot afternoon.

After Bon Vivant outgrows their initial growing pains, it could easily become a destination market & cafe and not just a neighborhood gem. Yes, there were some minor kinks, but the important thing is they have the right foundation. The food is what matters most, and they seem to have that down. Every employee was cheery and helpful, and the unique rustic space is beautiful.

The addition of Bon Vivant could not be more welcomed, and we cannot wait to return for many more bites+booze.
