LACMA Series: Through the Mic

For too long, Los Angeles hip hop has been seen as one dimensional 'gangsta rap.' With this new series, we're giving our city's hip hop artists an amazing platform to show not only our community, but the world, that we have so much more to offer.
– Murs

There is no shortage of museums and museum events in our beloved city, and we are beyond excited to find out that LACMA is hosting a new concert series, Through the Mic.  The series explores contemporary Los Angeles hip hop, with an emphasis on the diversity of L.A.-based artists. Co-curated by LACMA and hip hop artist Murs, the concerts will take place in front of artist Chris Burden's iconic Urban Lights sculpture on the third Thursday of every month, May through October 2012.

We'll definitely be there and can't wait to see what other artists will make up the series. We do love our hip hop.
