Tuesday Tunes: Kitty Daisy and Lewis

A couple years ago we heard a rockabilly trio named Kitty, Daisy and Lewis playing on KCRW promoting an upcoming show at The Echo. Before that morning, we had never heard of this talented group of siblings  (then 16, 19 and 21 years of age). We were loving their unique tunes that mixed 50s swing, R&B, country, and Hawaiian music. And since didn't have plans for the evening, we decided to stop by their show.

That night at The Echo we, along with  about 50 of their cat-eye, sculpted  hair, mid-century dress wearing devoted fans,  saw Kitty Daisy and Lewis blow everyone's minds. Each took turns singing different songs from their self-titled album and played a rotation of instruments like guitar, piano, banjo, lap steel guitar, harmonica, double bass, ukulele, drums, trombone, xylophone and even an accordion. Yes! They all played different instruments and sang their hearts out. Even their parents were in the band, with mom playing the upright bass and dad on the guitar. We can't remember the last time we saw such a gifted group of true musicians. Needless to say, we've been fans ever since.

If you haven't heard of Kitty Daisy and Lewis, do yourself a favor and check them out! Even if you aren't a fan of rockabilly music, you'll appreciate their sounds.

Their latest album, Smoking in Heaven, has been available in the UK since earlier this year, but hits US shores on October 18.
